Floral Artwork by Marilla Palmer

Palmer’s process begins in her garden, cultivating the flowers that she will later capture in colorful watercolor depictions before they wither and fade. She’ll then press the flowers under books to further preserve their delicate beauty. Finally, the pressed petals and leaves are added to the watercolor and combined with silk, sequins, vintage millinery velvet, and other manufactured materials, cut and combined with elements. In Palmer’s work, humankind and the natural world coexist beautifully. Marilla Palmer lives and works in Lakeville, CT, Brooklyn, NY and has shown extensively throughout the United States. Her work has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carlsbad Museum and Art Center, and MoMA PS1, among other galleries and institutions. She received her B.F.A from Philadelphia College of Art.

Watercolor painting of a bouquet of colorful roses in a gray vase on a pink checkered tablecloth.

Rose Watercolor by Hilary Cooper

Hilary Cooper’s portraits are grounded in traditional classical training but with a more modernist and vibrant handling of color, line and brushstroke. Her influences range from Goya to Alice Neel. Her works are paintings as much as portraits. The child of foreign service officer, Hilary grew up abroad. Formative years were spent gazing at portraits in England’s National Portrait Gallery. Later, she spent a semester soaking up the contemporary art scene at Goldsmiths College, University of London. In the U.S., she attended Oldfields School, Mount Holyoke College, the Art Students League and the National Academy. The watercolor is 16 x 12 framed.
